Curious about why structured literacy is important?

Let's explore.

A structured literacy approach emphasizes establishing a solid base in the key elements of reading. It is suitable for all learners, especially those with dyslexia, because the instruction is guided, explicit, and sequential. We begin by laying the groundwork and progressively developing skills in an organized manner.

Students require guidance to learn the code of the English language. This can be achieved by teaching systematic phonics along with engaging decodable texts.

At Bayside Literacy Lab, our approach is grounded in the principles of MSL (Multisensory Structured Language). We address the essential skills for effective reading, handwriting, spelling, and writing. Each session includes the core components of reading: phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.

Structured literacy differs from a balanced literacy approach, which often results in students guessing and memorizing. A structured literacy educator concentrates on developing crucial skills for reading, writing, and spelling, enabling students to enhance their skills, boost their confidence, and feel successful.
